Shattered Glass Chapter 1

1. The Breath Before The Storm

The General quickly scanned his troops, there were over a hundred well-trained fighters waiting for his command. The camp was spread across a valley on the edge of a vast forest where soldiers pottered around their tents, washing themselves and resting after the day's long march.

The General licked his chapped lips; the journey had been long and hard, and it was time to reap his reward. The sun had gone down , and as he gazed out over the forest, he could hear music and the sound of celebrating echoing from the settlement near the camp.

The Arrival of SpringThe roots press deep into the ground,

Cendre et PoussiereShe stood in the cold and crisp November air, flicking ashes from a cigarette into the breeze. Her expression was as frigid as the ice on the ground; her hair was a coffee sort-of brown like her eyes. Short, she was voluptuous in the true sense of the word.

Her name was Noyer.

She threw the cigarette to the pavement and extinguished it, bare foot. She walked on into the day, observing nothing, observing everything. Where she'd come from and why was a mystery even to her. Daughter to no mother, no father—she was an orphan of the mother earth.

Just in the wrong place ...Basically, he was happily married. At least, if you went by all the usual criteria, that's the conclusion you'd have ended up with. A lovely wife, young-looking still and a devoted mother to their three children, all of whom were doing excellently at school and their various hobbies and pursuits. A beautiful, Tudor-style house set in immaculately manicured lawns and gardens within a high-walled, secure enclosure. A hush-hush job in the city which provided ample funds to maintain the whole shebang in good working order and still allow for holidays abroad, expensive anniversary presents and the occasional lavish party.

I was frozen, It wasn't with fear but I couldn't move it was as if I had fallen into quicksand and descended to my death, slowly ,
And not once did I feel scared , I embraced it.

She gasped her eyes wide with fright. This was her. This was Scarlett. She wasn't what I expected, she was glorious.
She stepped back, It's when I realised I was holding my breath.

She doesn't get it but that's Summer-Anne , my wildflower.You can't feel or begin to feel the way I do until you've met , the one you'd take the stars out of the sky for,steal the sun in its golden glory and lushious light and replace it with that person, your person.
She makes my head spin :), she's awkward and confusing but if I couldnt see her smile,her eyes everyday life would be..pointless.
She's shown me how wonderful life is.
I don't know what I'd do if i couldnt have her, her stone grey eyes and sunkissed skin with long shimmering copper hair that catches light in the most exqusite ways.

Last MinuteAll around me, the sand keeps me warm. I'm just listening to the sound of the waves crash against the rocks. I'm listening to the few people who are currently splashing around in the water.

It is currently night time. The air is cold, and the breeze is almost piercing. The people who are in the water right now are probably crazy, it is freezing right now. Although, I'm one to talk. I'm just lying here and thinking. I'm lying near the shore, staring up at the night sky and letting my mind wander off. Sand is in my hair and in the spaces between my fingers, and this entire thing is just so soothing.

This beach is one I remember so clearly.

The HeraldIt was the beginning, it was the end, but I didn't know it right then. How could I understand that tomorrow a new chapter of life would start and this one would come to a close? I was oblivious as I ordered crab and shrimp out to the gazebo over the water, which was just starting to change colors with the setting of the sun.

Almost everyday, there is a new one right in front of me. I watch with unbearable curiosity as that glimmer leaves their eyes. Then they are cold. It is always the same. What is death? I have never understood it, even though I watch it everyday. It only seems more and more elusive to me.

I sit here in my worn out car. It was my father's, long ago (before I took it from him, of course.) The key still smells vaguely of his blood. Perhaps I am merely imagining it.
